Thank you for the question. No, the app is only needed for changing the existing presets or monitoring what presets are in the guitar. Once you have dialed in your sounds, you don’t need the app at all. You can use your guitar just like any other, but it will have 50 sounds in it.
I recommend reading the User Guide and if you have any further questions we are happy to assist.
Will the Bognar pickup system be able to be installed on a Fender Starcaster (which “appears” to have a conformal “pick guard plate” layout.

We do not know the Starcasters, unfortunately. As for Squiers: it might fit without any problems, or it might need modifications—it all depends on the model and make.
